About Green Cuisine
Located in Birmingham, Alabama, under the direction of Adriana Gutiérrez, we are a small custom grower for the restaurant industry specializing in premium quality gourmet greens and herbs. We have been growing specialty greens for high end restaurants since 1997. We consider ourselves a personal grower for chefs. In our capacity of "chef du jardin" or "chef of the garden" we enjoy consulting with chefs regarding their menu plans and custom growing greens which best complement the menu.
Our methods
We grow our products year-round in a greenhouse using hydroponic techniques for our herbs and gourmet greens and a semi-hydroponic system for our microgreens. Hydroponics provides optimal nutrients and water to the plants "on-demand" resulting in the the highest quality products possible.
Our seeds
We maintain an extensive selection of seeds at all times and are continually doing trials of new varieties. If you are interested in a variety that is not on our list please don't hesitate to ask us about it. We have learned about some of our favorite varieties as a result of chefs inquiries and would be happy to conduct a growing trial on new varieties.
We only use untreated seeds for our microgreens, and will buy organic seeds when they are available.
Our philosophy on pesticides
We use integrated pest management techniques using beneficial insects such as lady bugs and lacewings to control bugs which are detrimental to our greens. When spraying is called for we only use products which are approved for organic production.
Our Distribution
Our products are available by overnight mail anywhere in the continental US.
